LADY LUCK
What makes Balian a living legend, is the unending story of achievers who fill in the pages of its history with varied versions of their combats and glories. From the simple and sleepy barrio it used to be, it has metamorphosed into an articulate, liberated, and progressive community. At best, one can only say that Balian has consciously involved itself in working for some aspirations crafted to be its extensive handiwork.

The tale about Balian unfolds like chapters of adventures, success and or rags to riches stories of its characters. One never miss that of a formidable lady whose ideals of educational innovations were transmuted into one by which a great lot could equitably share and benefit. And the patroness of the tri-level of educational reform all in one setting is Mrs. CRISTINA BALINO ICARANGAL. Her novelty that has become a haven of learning is more prominently termed Balian Education Complex.

Like any other woman of the house, Mrs. Icarangal, Cristy, to fond associates, Ginang to her subordinates, Tinay to closed friends and relatives and or Mommy to the more intimate, including her brood started life early, devoting her time between teaching and motherhood. Ambitious and hardworking, she unfailingly performed both responsibilities without flaw, while nurturing a dream that soon became her goal and anchor.

At Pangil Elementary School, she was a model of modesty and frugality, her character that soon became her fate. She was serving her eight'n term as a Grade 6 adviser, when Balian Barrio School Movement in 1963 beckoned her home. From as central to a Barrio School, she called it luck then and opportunity still and she grabbed it. the event turned a real "Blessing in Disguise. The dream she'd been nursing at heart was not far-fetched.

She became the Teacher-In-Charge of the new school, a gradual step to envision further process within. It was here then that Ginang's pioneering tasks piled up.After 5 years, a complete Elementary school brought her the tittle of Principal. As if things were not enough and the barrio's resources abound her dream surpassed the tests of time. Her endurance and determination paved the way to Balian Public Barrio High School in 1966, now Balian Brgy High School, and to make everything complete, the Balian Community College both bagging the tittle of "First" in the province of Laguna. from Teacher-In-Charge to Principal, her dreams never tired to rest. To date, she is District Surpervisor to Pangil and Pakil District, College Registrar, and Managing Proprietor of another "First" in Balian, the equally famed, Icarangal Mini Resort. All of Ginang's laurels not much complete, she justfiably was awarded "Teacher of the Year" in 1966, and as "One of the HONORED Sons and Daughters of Laguna" In 1979 by the Caritas Foundation Inc.
Ginang maybe lithe and small, but she definitely thinks big. She values life as a gift that must be enriched with achievements. There surely were tough times, but the lady whose grit had enabled her to cope with crises proved equal to them. She faces them all and fights them, for she said "if anyone has the power to rise above himself, why opt to be a dwarf," Ginang, Cristy, or whatever, is no dwarf at all. She works hard for anything she sets her mind into and gives her best. That's what she'd been made of today the epitome of a model educator, warm, enthusiastic and persevering, her career boasting of many accomplishments which in totality is inspiring success story of all times.
